Some Suggestions for L4DNation
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:16:35 am »
Suggestions:

  • Maybe create a way to auto-delete old ass threads to clear up space on the site (Web Server will have less workload stress put on it).
  • Try to set/establish forum rules/regulations to be abided/followed by members.
  • Admins/Moderatiors should exercise proper rules and protocols accordingly Edit:Admins do a great job already.  I only meant like banning someone for no reason or something trivial.  But i never seen that occur yet so really omit this bulletpoint lol.
  • L4DNation should promote a negative positive environment/community(impossible lol, but we could try).

//Besides those, feel free to add, debate, comment, criticize, etc.

NOTE: These are solely hypothetical and my opinions.  These can be ignored or acknowledged.

I think the website is too small to be worried about these.
Some of the "trash" does get filtered, so meh. :)

1. Don't necro ancient threads because you are too dumb/lazy to read a date before posting

2. There are minimum standards of conduct and when people fall below them they usually get banned, except when Bowflexin unbans them because he's a softie

3. Report shitty posts (see that little button?) and the toilet will be flushed

4. A positive environment is the responsibility of the members, not the staff. It would be better if people were nicer but this isn't Brave New World

I like promoting positive environments, but it's a lot of work. It's not really something admins/rule-enforcers get to do. If the L4D community has positive things happening in it, the forums will be a positive place. If it doesn't, it won't.

There are simple rules on this forum. The only flaming you can do is in the Flaming forum, no real life picture flaming, and don't post porn. These three rules are pretty common amongst all forums. I just don't understand why you would even post this, yes some posts are pointless and are only there because people want to be silly. Moreover, without those "pointless and silly posts" this forum would be more boring than it already is. It would literally just contain technical talk about the game, which is a good aspect of the community, but it doesn't reflect or attract the majority of people that play this game.

I dont think the server particularly minds about how many threads there are. Besides, there isnt that many.
I dont think making rules will actually make any difference to what is discussed currently
Admins already ban users when needed
L4DNation already gives a platform on  which to build a positive environment. It just relies of the users to exercise it.
You can't beat an egg.........NO WAIT!

Kinda unrelated, but

How about getting rid of all those dead boards for tournaments from 3 years ago?

I always thought it was dumb too when I had to wade through single thread for all the info about the CCT2. Every tournament should get their own board, or none.

i was never stating i was a admin. I simply just enjoy playing Left 4 Dead.  Im also just a member only.  I have no power at all and understand my place.  I'm just stating some ideas i had.  Im a very new member, but i care about the community i guess.  i know its impossible to have a utopia-like community where everyone is a good sport, has sportsmanship, respects everyone, etc.  I'm sorry to everyone if i came off like I'm trying to push this.  Those weren't my intentions at all.  I simply felt like expressing my opinion to better the community i guess.  Thanks your for your feedback and inputs guys. Once again I'm am not acting like a admin.  I never wanted to. it was solely just a opinion i wanted some feedback on.  This was only food for thought.  Sorry about that Divayth Fyr if i came off like that. i never meant to.  i was just trying to have a civil discussion for some feedback from you guys.  The  site is fine.  I just gave some opinions about certain things. I thought thats what this thread is for(no sarcasm intended). Thanks for the feedback, criticism, etc guys.

Sincerely,

Don't sweat it. You had good intentions. I agree that some stuff needs to stop (like spamming stupid shit for no reason, or bullying xbye in any thread that he posts in), but we don't want l4dnation to become stale. Flaming and joking around is fun in the right environment (ala amongst friends, or in the flaming subforum) and as long as it doesn't go too far.
