Might be able to ask him.

I think it's a bit obvious which community members are already using hacks, and even if he did release this so called list no one would believe him and the users listed would just call bullshit.
I think it's obvious that xbye hacks because it would explain why he never competes and yet still thinks he's good.

A list is a place to start.

Salty players have said shit about how "everyone cheats" in this game forever, and never come up with a list of more than "This guy who quit playing 2 years ago cheated". I'm sure they've all got blackmail on each other, and they're so scared of their internet reputations that they'd never be able to call out a cheater.

General / Re: why is this site suddenly 'unsafe'

Previously the site used no encryption for connections (no HTTPS). We added HTTPS late last year, but we're using a free provider that requires us to mostly-manually renew the certificate every 3 months. I usually notice it within a day or so. Thanks to everyone who had notified me about it when it happens!

Can't touch my junkenstein's game:

More context:

I'm more confused about what happened to Rochelle. One hit from the witch to incap to dead, while the witch was switching targets.

Preset: Veryfast (Don't even touch this unless you want to test things and see what you can handle. Quality gain from Veryfast -> Faster, and Faster -> Fast is neglible. The only noticeable quality difference I've seen is from Fast -> Medium... and Medium is really far down there.)

Definitely agree that you shouldn't touch this setting unless you want to test things. However, I think looking at this setting in terms of quality level is the wrong way to approach it.

Tuning to a slower CPU Preset means higher CPU used in compression. It affects quality and bitrate at the same time. You can think of Quality, Bitrate, and CPU Preset the Triforce of Video encoding.

If you have a higher bitrate setting, you'll need less CPU to get the same quality. Or you'll have higher quality at the same CPU usage.
If you have a higher (read: slower) CPU Preset, you'll need less bitrate to get the same quality. Or, you'll get more quality for the same bitrate.

If you want to mess with CPU preset, you should basically turn it slower and slower until your in-game framerate starts dipping below your comfortable levels.

IMO, for any new streamer you should try streaming at 720p 30fps. Then look up what your upload speed is and set your bitrate to 50-75% of that--to a maximum of like 4500kb/s; any more and your viewers will probably complain. If this gets you stable framerates and good quality, you can consider turning up the resolution or framerate. If not, slowly increase (read: slow) your CPU preset until you reach desired quality levels. Rinse, repeat, roll back whenever it affects performance too much.

There used to be a way to download any arbitrary version of L4D2 from Valve's servers using a tool called DepotDownloader.

We even had a wiki page to catalog all the updates:

But Valve closed the API used by DepotDownloader, and now the only way to get old versions is to find someone who had them stored.

I was storing a bunch of old versions (the entire catalog) back in 2011 or so but then I got a job and lost it in a couple PC moves.

Offtopic / Re: Hotmess Hyper-V exploding atm

All of Hotmess its servers are hosted on VPSes, which means they're usually pretty depending on how much the actual dedicated server (other clients on the same machine also have stuff taking up CPU) is running.
Should only be a temporary issue.
For persisting issues it'd be wiser to actually post which servers exactly are having this issue (Hotmess has 21 Servers, from which 3 locations have a 128 Tick Server)
Every hotmess Hyper-V server. For the past couple weeks.
