RBT Tournaments / Parish finale: should it be played?
« on: December 21, 2014, 09:09:22 pm »
Although I think the finale has been hugely (hugely) improved for competitive play over vanilla, I still have the feeling that it sticks out like a sore thumb on Parish, which is an excellent campain otherwise. So I tend to lean against, but I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.

Can it work? Are more changes needed? Please post comments below. The poll will close in three days.

RBT Tournaments / RBWT 2015: READ ME Schedule, rules, and staff. READ ME
« on: December 21, 2014, 08:48:49 pm »
I am an entire sleeve of fig newtons and I will be your host for RBWT 2015.

Assisting me in my duties as Tournament Director will be the Assistant Tournament Directors:

They will help carry the load as they can by handling disputes that I am unavailable to adjudicate, or that involve my own participation or that of my team. Furthermore they will work to answer any questions you may have that are specific to your individual situation and especially not answered or explained in this forum or in the rules.

Abusive, harassing, time-wasting or otherwise disrespectful conduct directed toward staff will not be tolerated in any way.

THE OFFICIAL RULES OF THE TOURNAMENT ARE PUBLISHED HERE: LINK
DISREGARD ANY OTHER LINKS OR URLS TO RULES THAT MAY HAVE BEEN POSTED OR SHARED ELSEWHERE. THIS THREAD IS ONLY DEFINITIVE SOURCE.

Registration will close January 30th, 2015.

Round 1 pairings will be posted the following Monday, February 2nd, 2015.

The rules are still a work in progress. I will not post notices of rule changes that I implement prior to the start date. After Round 1 pairings are posted, you can check back in this thread for announcements. Additionally, the history will always be available for review.

I look forward to having a successful tournament! Please post here with any comments, questions, suggestions, or other constructive feedback you might have about the tournament and the ruleset.

RBT Tournaments / Should we relax the rules about ringers?
« on: December 17, 2014, 03:09:02 pm »
In the past, tournament rules on ringers included this paragraph:

Quote
No registered player may ring for another team unless their team has withdrawn from the tournament or that player has been removed from the roster.

After reviewing the rules for CS:GO and Ns2 leagues, I'm considering removing this. In the past it has led to weird situations (Everlasting being the workhorse tournament ringer) and extra forfeit losses where some teams would have preferred to play against a registered ringer.

Every team will still have the right to veto any ringer, and ringers will not be allowed in the playoff section. Should we relax this rule during the swiss section?

RBT Tournaments / Re: Regarding RBT2
« on: December 15, 2014, 05:45:51 pm »
Jacob confirmed to me privately that I'll be taking over RBWT.

1. At this point, the schedule is up in the air. Odds are good that the start date will have to be delayed. Teams that are already registered will remain so, and new registrations will be accepted through the same thread.

2. At this time the prize fund is $0. If anyone is interested in donating, please contact me through my steam profile.

3. I'll definitely be amending the rules, raising the standards of personal conduct on and off the "field". The amendments will definitely include paraphrases of the points Rails made above, as well as a few others I've been mulling over. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

4. I'm considering shaking up the format and map pool a bit. No Mercy is definitely getting dropped (sorry Jacob, I can't hold my lunch down with that in the pool.).  Since the wind was strongly pro-finals bracket last time, I'm leaning toward the standard "swiss into knockout" format from AST1 and CCT* again.

5. I strongly encourage anyone who can maintain a reputation for neutral and fair decision making to apply to be on the staff. I am registered to compete in this tournament and so above all else, I need at least one person who can make unbiased and dispassionate decisions about any disputes involving my team or myself. If that might be you, please contact me privately.

Confogl & Miscellaneous / Low-hanging fruit
« on: December 06, 2014, 04:24:51 pm »
In this thread I'll post ideas for coding projects that would be completely non-controversial upgrades, bug fixes, user experience improvements, and the like. Stuff that nobody would ever object to. That would be, at worst, welcomed by some and ignored by everyone else.

Please post your ideas, but try not post anything that could be even a little bit controversial or debated. For the love of God this thread is NOT for debating anything like scoring system or game balance changes; just list possible tweaks and improvements that would make the game better for everyone if a knowledgeable coder decided to pick them up.

A few to start off:

- Fix the silent jockeys (for real)
- A "warmup" phase with something interesting to do besides stand around in the saferoom
- Fix a bug where if an infected player can spawn unintentionally if they are holding down m1 when the game is paused
- Don't pass the tank if the player controlling it drops from the game
- Detect players dropping from a live round and print a warning or automatically pause
- Block annoying vocalizations or vocalization spam
- Allow the players to confine spectators to mm2 or ignore mm1 by the other team

General / Stop derailing threads
« on: November 24, 2014, 03:28:39 pm »
The thread topic and content of the original post (OP) determine the subject matter for each thread.

All posts to the thread should be relevant to the OP in some way: either a reply to the OP, or a reply to a reply (and so on). Sometimes it makes sense to bring in related topics, but only if it contributes something illuminating and relevant to the discussion.

DON'T decide that the idea / proposal / opinion in the OP is stupid or wrong and declare a new topic for the thread. If the OP is wrong then everyone will ignore the thread. Make your own damn thread for your supposedly better idea. Seriously, we're getting tired of that shit.

DON'T feed trolls or continue off-topic discussions. "But he started it and I just replied" is NOT an excuse.

DON'T post in a thread to complain that another post is off-topic. Hit the "report post" button and we will take care of it.

DON'T hijack threads with the endless damage bonus / health bonus / hybrid bonus debates. This has gotten out of control too many times. There is a thread for this and it's exceedingly unlikely that whatever point you are making hasn't already been posted there (unless it's an unusually stupid one).

Discussion in config release threads should be related to that release. In general, thoughts and opinions are invited about specific changes in the changelog. Not general musings like "it would be nice if..." or shitposting about how Jacob has crapped in your cereal again.
