Longterm Cup: Promod4v4
« on: March 07, 2014, 03:29:02 pm »
- Canceled. -

I've put a lot of money and effort into the EU Side of the L4D2 Community over the past year or two and I've decided that I'm done with it.
After all the amazing things I've seen it all in this beautiful community, I think it's finally time to drop everything I was working on or have worked on.

A small list of things I've had to deal with over the past few years:

- Financial Partner ("Friend") bailing out on you, repeatedly lying to you.
- 4th Grade Drama that apparently needs Server Admins to get it sorted (Excluding the very very very personal stuff)
- Constant attempts of people trying desperately to take down the servers, always trying new methods.
- An insane amount of people that simply refuse to do anything unless you stuff it down their throat. (Scheduling Matches, Optimization, etc)

Believe me, I've tried.
I've tried my best to make things work in favor for everyone, even for those who seem to see me as a bad guy.

I'll make sure to post the top 3 campaigns on Monday.
The Poll will be closed on Friday and I'll post the results then, gotta have a little patience. ;D

Always glad to see more tournies! With the rise in new servers, new players, and tournaments, along with new custom maps and configs to keep things fresh, we might be entering into a new golden era of comp l4d2.

Damn was really hoping for arena of the dead, but I figured not enough people would know what it was / vote for it over the top 4 campaigns. :(

you should redo the poll with the added option of not having a custom campaign. I know more than a few people who would've voted for that.

More than a few wouldn't cut it!
Besides, why not use Custom Campaigns?
Why are people so afraid of playing maps they don't know off the top of their heads? (aka; played the map 532+ times)

Which is why we only picked out the popular ones to choose from. o:
Anywoo, it'd be a shame if you refuse to participate in a tournament because you dislike a certain map, or two.

How are they retarded?

I agree that some of them have really lame elements (ladder chokes, LONG AS FUCK maps, etc). But those could be fixed or tweaked.

There you go, they should be fixed honestly.

I'm working on a pseudo-fix for ladder chokes now for an uncoming promod beta. If it's popular, I could roll it out to custom maps as well.

As for the maps being long, this could probably be worked on somewhat. Maybe make survivors start with chromes, silenced smgs, and melees to give them a small boost, or significantly nerf/remove events through stripper, or create intentional shortcuts for survivors to take using props.

The reason most of these customs are so hard are because they're not made by people who know much about the deeper aspects of versus, and if they were, they were probably made with tier 2s and medkits in mind. Since promod (and other comp configs) are balanced around Valve map difficulty, the configs tend to break down and become unbalanced on maps that deviate from that formula.
