Interest In a L4D1 Tourney Supporting L4D2 Teams?
« on: April 21, 2013, 07:30:34 am »
So I have done a ton of thinking, and I think everyone who plays l4d2 still likes l4d1 somewhere deep down in their heart. I think what puts people off is that they don't want to go against the top l4d1 teams, with no melees, and get shit on. It just wouldn't be fun. So I have an idea. What if I ran a tourney with 2 leagues? 1 is the amateur (L4D2 Teams), and the other is the advanced (L4D1 Teams). Each league would play through a whole double elim tourney, and the winner of the Amateur league would play against the winner of the Advanced league. The winner of each league would receive a 1st place prize, but whoever won in the amateur vs advanced league final would win a bonus prize.

I could provide prizes, and maybe some other people would want to donate to the cause.
Opinions?

Well the basic idea is cool since its allready up and running in EU and called L4Dleague.It had a preperation tournament in front and a group system tournament to decide who goes into what division in the end.

Main Problem is like always...Lack of Motivation, people cant hold deadlines or stick to any kind of rule....so it became uninteresting and boring.

I´d support and play it for sure with my team even if in US only if its organized properly and enough people showing some motivation to actually play instead of just signing up and forfeit after one loss...:)

I think a big part of the lack of motivation is that people don't want to play the top l4d1 teams and get stomped.
So let's do this. If you would play in this tournament (and can get a team together) post in this thread. I'm gunna make a list of potential teams, and if we hit 20 (regardless of if they are l4d2 or l4d1 players) I will run the tourney with prizes!

The german L4D2 Team from nikeOn started L4D just for our EU L4League and they are in the 1. Division good teams from L4D2 don't need to play in the amateur league there is no active "top" team active anymore in L4D1 just make a big Cup with a nice price maybe?

I'm glad to hear support coming from the L4D1 community. Any donation would help a ton. Also that is a very good point about skill level. I guess we can have 1 tourney, but- I will pair inexperienced teams against other inexperienced teams. I want everyone to get a chance to play a couple matches without feeling like they got a shitty matchup.

I would be interested in putting an Australian team in, We don't really have anyone else to scrim in Aus so we don't play the game much but we still love it :D

+1 We started playing the PreTournament and in the Division deciding group stages just for fun without even taken it serious.
noone in my team has played l4d1 competive and we expected a couple of rapes by the so-called "pro" L4D1 teams.
In the end we ended up 3rd in the PreTournament and went with only 1 real close loss in the Groupstages into 1st Division now without
even practising or doing anything in L4D1.

I think if people take it as it is -for fun- there is no need to divide teams into lower and higher cuz i think-and some people now might hate me a bit more <3- a mid level team in l4d2 that understands teamwork shouldnt have any problems in l4d1 at all since the game is way more simple and does not show the tactical variety of l4d2 and will end up with the questions - can u synch your attacks?,do you know how to waste, sacrifize your SI?,can you skeet/clear fast?

Bigger Questions regarding an upcoming Tournament would be: What Config??(I dont mind playing rowtow or roto as long as deadstops are disabled and servers are stable)

I would personally rather see a l4d2 fixed, (meaning fix spawn orders) retro config tourny on l4d2 maps. I feel like it would be a lot of fun.

I'm sure I'll get hate from l4d1 players for this but meh.

Wise words from nikeOn boy and he is absolutely right L4D1 is a teamgame like L4D2 so teams have no problem to play it.
