Left 4 Dead 3 / B4B and L4D3 rumor train
« on: September 11, 2019, 08:06:50 pm »
Saw a couple things pop up today related to B4B & potentially l4d

1. Turtle Rock is going to do a livestream tomorrow that sounds like it will have details about Back 4 Blood
Instagrammed with #back4blood

2. Kerry Davis (one of the devs who was maintaining L4D2) is apparently working on a VR title at Valve, and will talk about it a little bit next week.

I don't expect much from either of these in terms of substance but the Turtle Rock stream will probably tell us a lot about the state of development of B4B based on what they do or don't say.

News / Turtle Rock Studios is Back 4 Blood
« on: March 14, 2019, 10:11:26 am »
Left 4 Dead 3 Confirmed? Not quite, but it's possibly the next best thing for L4D fans.

The orginal creators of the Left 4 Dead series, Turtle Rock Studios, are have just announced a new zombie coop FPS game in cooperation with Warner Bros. Interactive, "Bad 4 Blood".

Official Press Release Here

The title of the game is an obvious reference to the original series, and the press release doesn't shy away from comparing the the game to Left 4 Dead.

“It’s hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is. We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains,” said Chris Ashton, Co-founder and Design Director, Turtle Rock Studios.

The press release also linked an Official FAQ about the game and this announcement, filled with a lot of light but important details. Notably, the game is going to be a brand new IP, unrelated to L4D, and the game WILL include PVP modes.

So, with little more than a name and a few promises, why the early announcement? The FAQ covers this, too:

With so little to tell us, why are you announcing now?

Back 4 Blood is a hugely ambitious project and we need the best of the best to come join us. As an independent studio, we have to announce early to let our industry know we’re up to something big. If you are in the video game business and you are looking to make real contributions to a brand new AAA IP developed in Southern California, check us out. Our job listings are here with more to come in the next year: 104.

So, there you have it. Could this be the spiritual successor Left 4 Dead needs? Just another zombie game? Or L4D HD Remake 2.5 final mix?

As a fan of both Left 4 Dead and Evolve, I'm hyped as hell, and I can't wait to see what the studio has in store.

Feedback & Suggestions / Longtime downtime
« on: October 16, 2018, 01:38:08 am »
Sorry about the long-ass downtime y'all.

The billing info I gave to our hosting provider expired and they shut down our account while I was out of town. I was able to get things reinstated last week by contacting them.

Then the system I normally use to admin the site went kaput (SSD is read-only ). So, perfect storm of not being able to take care of stuff easily. I got a new setup going for working on the site and it's now back up. Yay!

Now we've got about a month before L4D1's 10 year anniversary. Who is coming to the reunion?

Videos & Media / L4D2 Speedrunners on AGDQ today
« on: January 09, 2018, 12:26:16 pm »

They'll be on after Metroid 3: Corruption, Super Mario 3D world, and HL: Opposing Force. So probably a couple hours after this post.

Mr. Deagle, Master, Burhac, MrFailzzz

These guys have the WR

I've tried to do some of the "fortnite challenges" against them. They're all pretty good. Not just at speedrun glitches, but bhops and all else. Should be a good watch!

Servers & Adminning / Bring back the wait command
« on: June 16, 2016, 09:22:29 am »
Hi. I think servers should enable the wait command again.

Here's some reasons why the wait command was disabled that are no longer valid:

  • People used jump spam scripts to common hop more effectively in some cases.
    • Common hopping is now a death sentence (on high tickrate).
  • People used autofire scripts to fire pistols faster.
    • I *think* the configs do something to rate limit pistols anyway on high tick
    • I have a feeling that by now AHK is fairly ubiquitous among those who want to use scripts to this advantage.
  • Some people maybe used a script for jumprocks...
    • Acemod doesn't even allow jumprocks (though PM5 does I guess?)
    • I've never seen a successful jumprock script without locked framerates and such. AHK would be much better.

Here's some reasons not allowing wait command makes things worse:

  • Players that use wait commands (now: generally new confogl players) crash and have to choose to edit autoexecs or not play confogl.
  • When playing back demos from wait-disabled-servers, every time the demo begins (i.e. plays tick 0) it disables wait commands. If you want to use wait commands while recording, it's a veritable minefield of crashes/freezes.
    • I've tried a number of non-plugin techniques to prevent this, and it seems to bypass the console environment entirely.

Here's some things that I honestly think would make the game better or more appealing with wait commands enabled:

  • Glow scripts.
    • Even without the "flashing items" part, glows that alternate between temp and perm health are very useful and helpful to new players.
    • More relevant in promod than acemod, but it was still a huge quality of life addon, and it really helped newer players who needed to get used to the health bonus system.
  • Spectator/Camera Scripts
    • Kissme remembers to check health bonus once in a blue moon. Some scripts to output all of that info regularly could add to things.
    • There was a short-lived auto-spectating bot that used ingame scripts to switch perspectives between players. No longer possible :(

Following the map that leads to you.
Maps, maps, maps, wait.

Also just vote Undead Zone thanks.

Feedback & Suggestions / What social media do you follow regularly?
« on: May 31, 2016, 11:24:02 am »
I know at least a couple of the streamers in the community are interested in hitting up one or more of these, so I thought I'd take a poll.

I'm not a huge social media user myself, but at least a few of these options are pretty handy when there's content relevant to my interests on them.

As a follow-up, would you be interested in getting updates about competitive L4D on any of these?

Left 4 Dead 2 / Passifice Bugs
« on: May 17, 2016, 12:47:00 am »
The Passing 2: If the tank is later than 80% (confirmed @ 87%) the tank will not spawn.

It might just be a post-2nd-part-of-event issue in which case 86% or 87% is about the start.

The Sacrifice Finale: On the second round, the survivors find their 4 static pills replaced with Pipe Bombs, in an epic trole.

Left 4 Dead 2 / L4D2 Arcade Version: "The Survivors"
« on: May 03, 2016, 10:13:18 pm »
I'm sitting in an airport bored so I thought I'd upload a few of the pictures I took of Japan's L4D2 arcade adaptation: 生存者たち or "The Survivors".

I've got some video and info but phone writing sucks so here you have album #1:

Announcements / Site Maintenance Completed

Hey guys! We just moved the site to a new webhost. And to top things off we now default to HTTPS for all connections!! Exciting!

As usual, let me or another site admin/moderator know if you experience any issues (or just report them on the feedback forum).

Over the next few months I'll be trying to roll out a number of other changes to the site. If anyone is interested in collaborating on some site changes, or getting some programming experience, feel free to hit me up :)

Feedback & Suggestions / Forum Rules
« on: March 28, 2015, 01:19:17 pm »

L4DNation is the largest forum dedicated to competitive L4D discussion. We try our best to make it a welcoming community for players, coders, config makers, casters, and spectators to come to talk about the game and community they love. However, posting on L4DNation is a privilege, not a right. We expect our users to be respectful of one another and their viewpoints.

Arguments and debates are to be expected, but at the end of the day we want L4DNation to be a safe place for people to come and discuss. The staff at L4DNation will not hesitate to ban or remove privileges when posts cross the line from heated discussion into personal attacks.

Should I post this?

If you're about to make a post that you think might be crossing the line, take a step back and re-read what you've written.

  • If your post aggrandizes yourself at the expense of others...
  • If your post insults, demeans, or mocks other people...
  • If your post responds to and extends stupid, pointless, or toxic conversation even if directed specifically at you...
  • If your post fails to contribute to the discussion in a positive way...
  • If you aren't sure that your post does not fall outside of these bounds...

A good post can express your viewpoint without encroaching on the rights of others. If you're worried about your viewpoint opening you up to attacks from other users, feel free to seek the help of a moderator (ProdigySim, fig newtons, Visor) to try to address those concerns.

We've been a pretty easygoing community for a good amount of time, and we're still going to be that. Adding a set of rules is a change that's probably something we should have done a long time ago. It's mostly just a move to sort of formalize things to help let people know where we stand.

Feel free to provide feedback on the rules privately or on the Site Feedback forum--we're always open to hear from you guys.

Hey guys, I have a project in mind and I'm kind of looking to find as old of l4d-related footage as possible. I want to try to keep a catalogue of where old match casts and stuff can be found. I know there's some really old stuff hiding online and some of you know where it is.

Basically the oldest stuff I know is the stuff on my youtube, and I'm hoping we can find some older stuff. Particularly, if anyone knows where e-rev casts might be hiding.
