I want to thank everyone who participated -- you are why this tournament has been a success!

Now, on to the playoffs.

For brackets,
Click >>>HERE<<< (http://binarybeast.com/xL4D21503160)

The playoffs will consist of three (3) rounds of play: quarter-finals, semi-finals, and grand-finals.

Quarter-final matches will be determined by the result of a single game. Semi-final and grand-final matches will be "Best of 3" games.

Results of each match must be posted in this thread, with a screenshot of the scores for each game, by the round end deadline.

Map Selection

Several people have told me that the map selection process for semi-final and grand-final matches is too complicated. Therefore, I am amending it. If you are a participant, please read the following carefully.

For each round, I have published a map for Game 1 below. That will be the map played in the first game of each match. The loser of the first game will pick the map for the second game. If a third game is necessary, the loser of the second game will pick the map for the third game.

You may not pick a map that has already been played in the same match, and the maps must be in the map pool.

Schedule

Due to the logistical hurdles associated with scheduling and completing up to three games, I am extending the deadlines for the Semi Finals and Grand Finals. Round end dates are published below. These are "drop dead" dates for the round to end.

There is no rule against playing matches ahead of schedule. It is completely optional, but strongly encouraged. Please contact me if there are any conflicts in scheduling.

It is not necessary that all three games be played one after the other in the same day. My only requirement is that the complete match results be posted before the round end date.

Round 1
Map: The Parish

Round ends: March 22nd, 2015 (Midnight PT)

Round 2
Map 1: Hard Rain
Map 2: (Loser of game 1 picks)
Map 3: (Loser of game 2 picks)

Round ends: April 5th, 2015 (Midnight PT)

Round 3
Map 1: Swamp Fever
Map 2: (Loser of game 1 picks)
Map 3: (Loser of game 2 picks)

Round ends: April 19th, 2015 (Midnight PT)

Please make one post in this thread with screenshots and results after the conclusion of each match.

Updates
Updates will go here as the tournament progresses.

Congrats on the teams making it to the finals, and good luck to them in the next rounds! Well deserved by all of them. Just a quick follow up question: What's the system that you based the brackets on? From what I recall, usually the teams are paired 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. I'm just curious as to how the pairings came about this way.

Looks like 1v5, 2v6, 3v7, and 4v8, not really sure about the logic behind it but I didn't really put much thought into it.

Past tournaments have done the 1v8, 2v7, etc. way (Ones I've hosted)...  but I actually think the one we're doing here is better...  my 2 cents with no reasoning behind it c:

Pairings were based on "balanced" method which should give a bit of a chance to weaker teams but I think it's too much for them being unfair for stronger teams. :( Alerion and whatevaz by any means should not fight right in the quarter-finals - i mean come fucking on - one of them will not proceed further while they are one of the main favorites and should fight like in finale or somewhere near. You even made it one game first round so it adds more random. Seems like you really HATE Alerion and/or whatevaz. O_o

I don't have words - this pairing seems absolutely terrible and only one game for first round makes it even worse.

Friendly reminder that every tournament in the last 2+ years has had bo1 games for all finals matches (excluding international matches)

but in the end only the best will get be champ tho. if you lose to any team, you obv arent #1. and its not like there is 2nd or 3rd place prize or anything (i don't even know if there is a 1st place prize). but i do agree that all rounds should be BO3 as there are only 8 teams.

Ideally, they would all be bo7... but there are a lot of factors to balance. The amount of time to complete the tournament is the biggest one. Now, I'm not aware of anyone wanting to step up and start a new Promod tournament after this one. But I don't want the tournament to drag on forever regardless.

If all three rounds were bo3, then the playoffs alone could take more time to complete than the main section did. Unless I made everyone play up to three matches every week, which is a level of activity that most teams can't be reasonably expected to maintain.

So I put a lot of thought into it, and decided there's no perfect solution. This was the best balance I could come up with between competitive "accuracy" vs what I can fairly demand from the competitors vs time to completion. I think it will work out okay, but I suppose we'll all find out together, won't we?

Definitely not pointing any fingers because I played shittier than anyone in there. You can't take anything away from VR either since their infected was very on point and they even had some new tech that they uncorked against us, whereas we were pretty much just loading into the server to play l4d as usual. But everybody on our side played well below their usual level imo. We weren't really having fun playing either so it was pretty tense and stressful. It was just their day and not ours, basically.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little jockey? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in L2L, and I’ve been involved in numerous scrims against Grizz, and I have over 300 confirmed skeets. I am trained in baiting and I’m the top uzi in the entire PUG group. You are nothing to me but just another Hib. I will wipe you the fuck out with my godlike curve rocks, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, Purple. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of scrims across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the dodge, maggot. The dodge that wipes out the pathetic little community you call L4D2. You’re fucking dead, Purple. I can be anywhere, any time, and I can M2 you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my melee out. Not only am I extensively trained in melee combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the saferoom and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable charger off the face of the map, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment about Bravo's crown was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn smoker. I will spit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking M2'd, Kevin.

did they forfeit one game or the entire BO3 match?

Alerion forfeited because of an unfortunate combination of real-life events screwing everything up for them. Killerbeast had been tearing his hair out trying to get the match scheduled, but there was nothing Danne could do about it since it was real life stuff and out of their control.

That's a less-than-ideal situation from the standpoint of the tournament, obviously -- especially the spectators. However, the alternatives all seem to be worse. Bravo said his would be willing to step up, and there was some logic to that since he'd lost to Alerion by such a microscopic margin. But I'm already unhappy about having the playoffs extend the tournament by an extra month as it is, and that would mean extending the tournament even more. On the other hand, forcing TSSS to play the match this weekend would have been grossly unfair to them, so that was out of the question: after such a lengthy struggle to schedule the match with Alerion, I'd have been saying "j/k you don't FFW, you have to play Bravo instead!"

Under those circumstances, I asked Killerbeast if his team would be able to play a match with Bravo's team where TSSS would have a 1 game advantage. It was a lot to ask: TSSS had been keeping their IRL schedules clear for two full weeks waiting for a match schedule to happen with Alerion, only to have it never materialize. I know what it's like to balance real-life obligations under that and it's not fun. Besides, it was never their fault that Alerion couldn't play the match, and so they would be accepting a match with a team that lost in the quarter-finals whereas they had won.

In retrospect, I never should have asked at all. It's not Killerbeast's responsibility to make these kinds of decisions; it's mine. All I did was put them in the awkward situation of having to take an extra match they had no real obligation to accept, or else get egged by everyone for "dodging" even though they did nothing of the sort.

Giving them the option was just me trying to pass the buck, and I'm sorry for that. I apologized to Killerbeast directly already, and I want to extend my apologies to everyone else now. I messed up.

The fact is, TSSS deserve to be in the finals as much as Apollyon.  They had a win over Alerion in the swiss; they won their quarter-final match fair and square; and they did everything in their power to schedule in the semi-finals. The Grand Finals will be between Spectacular Soy Sauce vs Apollyon, and as regrettable as it is that we got cheated by fate out of an exciting semi-final match, I'm looking forward to the Grand Finals.

I am not happy that I'm now partly responsible for certain people engaging in juvenile playground jeering against TSSS, since they did everything that could reasonably be expected of them. I'm extremely disappointed with it regardless and I won't tolerate it here. The responsibility is with me only.

I am not saying I am unhappy with the decision because this tournament was created with the intention of just fun, nothing else.  What I will say is that as an admin you have the power to make decisions and overrule such circumstances to better your own tournament.  Now I am not sure what schedules killerbeast or luckyluck or evol have, but I am sure that if they really wanted to with the amount of hours they have played in the last 2 weeks which is well over 200 hours combined, they could have put aside and spent 2-3 hours within the time span of 3 days to play 2 games (possibly one if they win it).

Again, good luck to them and as you said fig, this should have never been their call.  It should have been your call.  When a team steps out of a tournament and you are left empty handed, you get the next best thing.  Cooljerks team forfeited a finals game of some tournament I cannot recall at the moment and the admins put in the runner ups, it should have never been the choice of the opposing team.  Lets all be honest here, if they scheduled with alerion this late into the week im sure it would have been played during the weekend anyways.

I look forward to this post being taken down so that you can continue running a corrupt system for a game that has less teams then I can count with one hand.

I agree as well. You have to earn your place in grand finals. Doesn't matter what team you play to get there in semi-finals. There also should be no game advantage for TSSS.

I understand your point of view, but I don't think what people had said warranted bans or deleting their posts. It didn't seem like harassment or a personal attack. Just people opinions on what has happened.

As for the game, sad days for the viewers.  Not to come off as rudely, but I see most tournaments as some fun to be had playing and watching, not as bragging rights or sicknasty boomer plushie victories :P

I will throw myself under the bus here with Fig.

When I first caught wind of Alerion pulling out of the tournament I went to Bravo and Fig and told Bravo that he should ask Fig about Whatevaz taking their spot.  I then also asked Fig if he would be OK with such an event happening.  We talked about it and came to the conclusion that it would be best for TSSS to make the decision since technically they won the match, by whatever means, and no rules stated they were inclined to have to play the runner-ups.  I 100% supported Fig and his call to ask Killerbeast and not out-right say 'TSSS is now playing Whatevaz'.  Had there of been a rule that stated 'In the case of a drop-out in playoffs, the runner up would be put into the drop-outs spot', then obviously that would have been the situation and from the looks of things, would have been the better way to go about it.

I can not say that I was the only person that Fig bounced the idea off of, but I will say that I was one that supported his idea and actions and still do in this situation.  I also felt as Dusty does that it would suck for viewers and tournament appearance, but with no rule against it, I felt that it would be unfair for TSSS to be forced into it, when by tournament rules, they did win their match.

Hind-sight is 20-20 and I am more than certain that a clause reflecting this situation will be put into the rules for future tournaments as it was already talked about in PM.

Once again, I am sorry for putting TSSS and Whatevaz in this situation.  My insight was wrongly misguided by what I thought would be fair for TSSS and it ended up doing more harm than good.

nothing was misguided, nobody is to blame, and nobody is to be given any apologies.  A team dropped out and a semifinals was not played.  The match could have still happened but the opposing team straight up declined for the sole purpose of just declining and advancing.  That is what happened, plain and simple.  I will argue to the ends of the earth not because I want back in the tournament but because I feel that a lot of people here made wrong decisions and are playing the victims.

TSSS shouldn't have any obligation to play a team that didn't get into semi-finals just because their opponents declined/forfeited.

Just stick to the rules.

It seems like a bunch of people are emo about TSSS getting a "free" ride to the finals match, but I personally don't want to see TSSS get knocked out by a team that lost in quarter finals.  I'm not saying that would happen, but I feel like that'd discredit the competition even more.

I don't think it's "emo" to voice your opinion. Of course spectators and fans of these games, want more matches to be played.

Hypothetical Example: If apollyon dropped out of the finals, You'd imagine people would be upset and still want a championship game played still, no?

I don't think any of us play or watch l4d2 for the big cash money prize pools, or the bragging rights of being the best l4d2 player. We watch and play for the love (sometimes hate) of the game.

EDIT: Actually, thinking back on this, some people do play to be considered the best l4d2 players, but that's a laughable title, even in our own game.

if anyone should be given a second chance, it should be the team i voted to win: velvet room. after all they received an overwhelming number of votes in the prediction thread as the favorite to win this tournament. i am sure most people would agree. i am also hesitant to trust whatevez, as many of their players are either rude, racist or banned from this forum.
