Some CCT3 Info!
« on: July 31, 2014, 11:29:45 pm »
So we have already announced CCT3 and talked about it a decent bit, but I wanted to make a post here for anyone who didn't know.
I'm gunna share some basic info, but I'm not going too into details yet. So yea, here's some cool stuff!

-The tourney will start in early October.

-It will be an international tourney.

-We plan on bringing in new maps with this tournament, as previous CCT's have also been geared to do. We will be reusing 1 map, but it will be given an overhaul because we believe it has a lot of potential which we left untapped back in CCT1. The map pool will be announced on a later date.

-We are breaking away from the Swiss format and going with a Group format. Teams will be split into groups and will play everyone within their group. The top 2 or 3 teams (undecided yet) from each group will advance to a playoffs bracket.

Yea that's really all that I can confirm as of yet. More info will be coming within the next month. Feel free to leave any suggestions in this thread.

I'm pretty sure this is thought out already, but I feel like groupings should be based on skill level. I mean imagine if your a low mid team going up against a mid or high level team. It destroys the confidence, but sometimes. It is what it is.

IM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS TOURNEY.

Why should there be groupings based on skill level? So that way people who are worse at the game make it farther in the tournament than those who are actually better than them? If you don't like being steam rolled, get better at the game? Practice more? If you lose by a lot, deal with it like we all do on a regular basis when we lose? Maybe eventually you'll get to a level where you can compete with top level teams?

as someone who has been consistently steamrolled by good teams in matches, i just want to say that a lot of people play this game casually, and they just wanna play for fun and not to be a top team. when they're forced into matches with these top tier players and they just get stomped, it's very hard to have fun. i've literally never won a tourny match and i've been in the WatchL4D tourny, ACI Tourny (briefly), the shoot2thrill EQ cup, and a 2v2 tourny a while back. my very first tourny match with City 17 was against none other than Velocity. i don't really have the time (with school coming up) to devote to becoming a top tier player, nor do i really want to. i want to play to have fun and occasionally win. but with the way a lot of tournaments are run, you just..can't. i get that it seems really stupid, but it's a huge turnoff to new players to come into the community and just get the shit beaten out of them for a year and a half. i know you all went through it, but how many people left that maybe would have stayed?

all i'm saying is it's hard to play for fun when everytime you play you get your ass kicked.

(disclaimer: i know i suck so if you point it out you're stupid and your argument is probably invalid)

I don't get the argument of not wanting to play good teams in a tourney. If you want to play low level teams you can scrim them. Tourneys are for competing, and I don't consider it a fair competition if better teams are penalized just for being good.
We will not be grouping all the good teams into 1 group.

And yes we will be using home / away servers for international matches.

It's hard to play this game and not suck too. When you take into consideration sports, like tennis which actually has a skill level system built in, there is a reason a guy like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and really anyone ranked in the top 100 is a 7.0. And then guys like me, while I'm no slouch to the sport, are at a 4.0 League level. If you want to play amateur competition, you can sign up for it in most cases, but you'll get your ass handed to you. Without the practice and knowledge of the sport, you will get straight out destroyed. That's not fun, but don't be stupid to think there is something fair that should be instilled simply because you're not as good as your counterparts. It makes for a bad argument.

A similar argument is having to do with our education system in America. Rather than raise the bar, to create some with excellence and others who will fail, systems have been put in place so that 90% pass. What good is lowering the overall level of game play just so some have more "fun?" This is a competition, not a party.

Cool stuff. :)
As before, you don't need to let NF & Estoopi do all the Stripper work.
I'd gladly pitch in like I did here and there for previous CCT and I'm sure others would love to help too.

You're not alone~ :D

swiss system at least gives the chance for lower level teams to have a chance at winning, which is the only reason i said it.
