Duplicated Survivor Exploit?
« on: May 03, 2017, 05:09:07 pm »
Anyone heard of duplicated survivor exploit? So there was 4 players on survivors team, one player went spec cuz he asked for sub and one of the specs joined survivors team, and somehow there was 5 survivors after he joined. I must say I have never seen this before, any ideas? Obviously i want to prevent this from happening again if this is an exploit that can be easly reproduced.

it's just a bug, usually occurs in ready up but can happen sometimes later in the game. I'm sure someone like Sir knows more about it than I do.. it's certainly not a common bug though and I doubt they did it intentionally.

its definitely replicable but i doubt anyone would do it intentionally since there isnt really anything to gain from doing it

Yea i did think that its replicable, hence im wondering if there is any way of fixing it.

i know how to duplicate survivor bots but you have to run to the safe room to do it and you need exactly three player survivors so it sucks. ty for your advice

I've heard of this exploit. In fact, I know how to do it.

I'd think it would be impossible to block because the commands needed to perform the exploit are also used by the game to assign players to teams.

Hmm, interesting. Well maybe if you could explain how its done then we could think of possible ways of blocking it.

It's actually quite easy to do, but there's "rules" to it. First off, at least 1 other player needs to be in the game with you.
Just go idle, then in the console type "jointeam 2 [survivor name]", with [survivor name] being the name of the survivor the other player is playing as. It has to be an actual player, and not a bot, else you'd simply take control of that survivor.

So let's say your friend is playing as Bill. "jointeam 2 bill". That's really about it. The only thing is, you join in as dead. The bot you were previously playing as, stays, and you won't spawn in until someone rescues you. Or, restart the map. There's also a very high chance that anyone in the game who goes idle with the extra bot will force them into the spectator team (unless someone leaves or joins the game, then that's corrected).

The process can be repeated over and over again by leaving, and joining in. Me and a friend got up to 16 survivors one time in a survival game. Though, of course, only 4 actual players can join in the game. The rest stay as bots.

I think i saw this method on youtube, although that was something else since there was 4 players
one player switched to spectators
and another player that was on spectators team switched to survivors, and after this there was 5th survivor. There was no restarts whatsoever.

Perhaps there's different methods. Either way, I'm pretty confident the console commands "spectate" and "jointeam 2 *" are still involved.

This happened in the Watchl4d finals match between serious business and dynasty: https://youtu.be/47pLtRpVN3s?t=1829

Definitely by accident (the opposing team called it out to us and didn't advance the map until it was fixed)

I didn't know it was reproducible. As far as I knew, this was the only time it ever happened.
