« on: August 10, 2014, 03:03:41 pm »

Help needed for a low

I know some of my shots are late but Im often getting blood from the hunter. But after he lands he has full health?

And what about the Hunter in the Parish ammo room? why does it take me 4 shots to kill there.

Cheers

If you see blood, but the server doesn't register damage, that basically means you and the server are out of sync to some extent. If your ping has a lot of variance or you're experiencing packet loss this can easily happen. Your last clip, where the hunter stopped in his tracks mid-air, looks like packet loss

Cheers bud,

Here's another one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GneGg9TkBWo&feature=youtu.be

The first clip : I didnt notice any choke or packet loss in the netgraph (but i coulda missed it ofc)

the remaining clips : could just be me moaning but are we seriously saying I didnt do more damage with some of those shots or are they also not regisering?

Cheers for the help

If it's not network issues, then it could be local frame drops. What shows up on that first clip could be evidence of a massive frame drop at that time.

Like ProdigySim explained, packet loss is the culprit most of the time you see glitches with animations. That is probably the explanation for the exorcist hunter in the first clip. You might also notice strange stuff like jerky reload animations or going through a reload animation multiple times, only to find that you mysteriously never actually reloaded and you have to try it again. Same thing with trying to pick up items: you hammer the +use key and nothing happens, then finally when your client gets the next full game state refresh you find out you've picked up the axe and dropped it a hundred times.

On top of that, packet loss can cause many other horrible things too, such as: pressing mouse1 and getting the attack animation + blood, but the packet that says you fired never actually reaches the server. So packet loss is also a sufficient explanation 'missing' point-blanks even after seeing blood and hearing the hunter pain sound.

At my old apartment, I had a good connection with stable ping and absolutely no packet loss. Since I moved out I've had unstable internet lately with ping spikes and some moderate packet loss. It sucks a lot, and I've realized that when your internet is like that, you just can't use a shotgun in 4v4. The penalty for having any given shot "dropped" by the network is too high when you have only 8 shots per clip instead of 50.

No advice for how to deal with it in 1v1 except to fix your internet.

What server is that?
$10 says you aren't anywhere near a controlling position of the L4D3 scene in any continent when it happens.

Thing is he does what he wants, cause his able to and we are letting him do that. He abuses hes place and power in this community and people like me get banned for no reason. Only thing visor wants is more and more control so he can do what ever he wants.

Any hop between your NIC and the server can drop packets.

Look for a good traceroute utility on your platform. It should do multiple polls and show packet loss.

Edit: mtr is excellent on *NIX
