Watching matches/VODS > Mentoring
I hope this is bait, otherwise you're a complete idiot if you think watching VODs from a third-person perspective outweighs first hand experience with good mentoring.

that is a great suggestion bravo. In addition to the vods from the cast and any pov streams we will also make demo's accessible. something ive noticed is that players on the top cs teams 'practice' by watching demos to find things to improve on. it could work here too

Learning how to play yourself > being mentored by pRoFfesioNal pLaYeRsXDD

I would rather spend abit of time on youtube watching VODS at x1.5 figuring out by process of elimination which strategies and game decisions work best in which situation than receive potentially inferior instructions from one source (ie, a guy that only plays pugs and pub games because he finds it too difficult to communicate with others in a team setting)

L2L is only one night a week, people can go watch matches whenever they want, nobody has to choose between either being mentored by pRoFeSiOnALGAYMeR or watching vods on their own.

I said good mentoring, not "pRoFeZiNaL PLYRZ". A lot of the pRoFeZiNaL PLYRZ are awful at mentoring.

Just because you are well versed in something doesn't mean you would be a great teacher in the subject. Providing information is one thing, making sure they can retain it through and execute it regularly is another.

There is a reason my 1on1 lessons were sought after by non-elitist assholes, and were even recommended by people who were less than fond of me.

A lot of players find it easier to put their toes in the water and work their way up. Which is what Left2Learn ran as for a while, which it was most successful during that time. A place where people who were too scared to pug because of the clear toxicity and elitism that kept them from even trying.

I seriously hope this isn't directed at me.

real excited for the first event we have planned. Dawkins AND Infested should both be there. Looking like we will have enough signups for 2 games as well

I was offering to do demo reviews for l2l for literally years but nobody ever submits demos for review because they think they'll just get roasted or something.

Great points Bravo, Fig and Lupe, if we need a place to store the demos, im sure we can on eFPS. It's a content driven community hub and it might be a bridge for people from other games who might be interested in L4D2.

Xbye has a good point bravo. Helping someone achieve the right attitude is an imperative part of success in this game and integration to this community. The biggest thing i wanna stress is that you should always be thinking / talking about the future attacks / map, not the past.

L2L meeting one: watch demos of high level players and discuss
L2L meeting two: discuss fundamental mechanics for success in above low level games
L2L meeting three: put teaching into action
L2L meeting four: realize game is dead and the competition isn't there
????
PROFIT

tfw you realize xbye is just as sociopathic as jay
That's a bit of a stretch considering how altruistic I've always been.

teaching mechanics is not the same as teaching how to play

You can do both with mentoring. Again, there is a reason e-sports teams have coaches. Those players sure as hell know how to play far better than the coaches themselves, so why are these e-sports teams hiring coaches for supposedly the best players in the world?

I deleted a whole bunch of posts in this thread so if it looks like someone is talking to themselves, that's why.

Meanwhile, Xbye and Bravo have been sent on a little vacation. Let's get back to the topic at hand.

shame, the entire goal of this project is to get more people in the community, not scare them away. flaming / internet trolling a registration thread for new players is sure to do so.  the disappointing part is that they each had some valid points, just the way they were approaching it was the problem.  The demo thing, I can't be the only person who gets heaps of satisfaction knowing I can check my stream to see exactly what went wrong, not to blame my teammates, but to learn from it.
